E. Robert Lemkin was a native of New York City. He attended the University of Utah School of Law and moved to Fullerton, California in 1955.
Known as the "Godfather of Orange County Family Law," Mr. Lemkin was the first attorney in Orange County to limit his practice to family law. In 1970 Mr. Lemkin was the senior partner in an exclusively family law firm, with partners John R. Schilling and Mark Millard. Both John R. Schilling and Mark Millard subsequently opened their own family law firms. John R. Schilling continues to practice in Newport Beach, California. Mark Millard is now a Judge of the Orange County Superior Court.
Mr. Lemkin was a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and was among the first group certified as Specialists in Family Law in California. In 1994, Mr. Lemkin partnered with Curtis Barnes and the firm became known as Lemkin & Barnes, Inc. The firm of Lemkin & Barnes, Inc. continued to handle sophisticated cases involving community property, support issues, and child custody.
In 1996, when Mr. Lemkin passed away, Curtis Barnes took over the firm, continuing with the firm's excellence in handling complex family law matters. In 2004, Mr. Barnes partnered with Cheryl Anne Row. The firm is now known as Lemkin, Barnes & Row, Inc., retaining Mr. Lemkin's name in his honor.
